HRFC Poker Run Final Reminder

Hi Members,
Just a final reminder that the “Wine Country Poker Run” is scheduled for this Sunday and I thought that I should distribute a few more details for those that intend to participate or assist on the day.
So, here is the lowdown.
  • A few of us intend to be there (at the airport) from about 8.30am.
  • There is no particular start time for the event as some entrants that are not HRFC members will be coming in from other areas and can pick up their cards from the participating landing areas on their way into Cessnock.
  • The participating landing areas where cards are being held for collection are: Warnervale, Gloucester, Luskintyre, Warkworth Glider Strip and Peter Mahine’s private strip along Yarrawa Rd at Denman.
  • Cards have already been distributed to these pick-up points, and can be picked up as follows:
    • Warkworth – At the glider launch point. Mick Webster will be on the radio and can give guidance if necessary.
    • Peter Mahine’s Denman Strip – Peter will deliver by quad bike when he hears you over fly (be there before 1.30pm).
    • Luskintyre – On the table, on the verandah of the house. You can taxi up to the house.
    • Warnervale – On the shelf directly below the flyer which is on the notice board in the clubhouse.
    • Gloucester – In the mail box near the front door of the clubhouse. The mailbox is made from an old gas bottle.
  • It is not necessary for entrants to visit all five collection points, but we would like participants to return to Cessnock before 2pm with a minimum of 3 cards per entry from at least two of the listed pick-up points.
  • Lunch will be on from 1pm to 2pm and will comprise a free sausage sizzle – other food and drinks will be available from the kitchen at our normal club prices.
  • Participants can register and pay their entry fee on the day ($15 per single entry or10% discount for multiple entries).
  • Passengers can enter and multiple entries per person are acceptable.
  • However, here is a link to register online ahead of time simply to reduce the admin load on the day if you wish < Poker Run – Pilots Registration Form – Hunter Recreational Flying Club Inc.>.
  • Cards need to be handed in (still in their sealed envelopes) at the card table before 2pm as we want to present the prizes shortly after two o’clock.
  • A main prize will be awarded for the best 5 card poker hand.
  • If you arrive with less than 5 cards per entry, additional random cards can be issued at the card table.
  • There is a Joker (“Wildcard”) in the pack at each pickup point and if you return with one, you can review your hand and decide to either trade it for a minor prize and draw a new random card to complete your hand. OR, forgo that prize and retain the wildcard to boost your chances of winning the main prize.
The attached information regarding operations at Gloucester, Yarrawa (Denman) and Warkworth Glider Strip, is intended as a guide only and pilots should refer to the relevant (and current) aviation maps and ERSA  for accurate information when planning their flights.
If you have any further questions regarding the event, you can locate the event flyer, rules and some other information on the club website OR you can call me at any time and I will try to assist.
I hope to see you on Sunday.
Thanks & Regards
