Airport Upgrade Schedule

Hello Members,

To bring us up to date regarding the Cessnock Airport upgrade plans, Cessnock City Council invited two representatives from each of the organizations operating on the airport to attend a special meeting today. Keith McGeachie and I attended as HRFC representatives and I have attached to this note, a copy of the briefing material provided. Please take the time to read the document and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give either Keith or I a call or email.
You will see that there is a lot of work being undertaken and so it is obvious that there will be disruptions to some operations over the next six months. Fortunately, most of the disruption will affect those operating from the Southern end and Easter side of the airport and there should be little effect on us except during the major shutdown periods.
Here are a few important points to note:
  • During the preliminary works, when the runways will still be available, but some taxiways will not, aircraft from the Southern and Eastern regions will be required to relocate and park on the western apron.
  • A temporary fueling station will be set up on the western side while earthworks are being carried out around the regular fueling area and Eastern Apron.
  • Please check and remember the “Key Dates” listed on the attached document. I will also add them to the Club’s website calendar.
  • Allowance has been made in the schedule for some inclement weather based on historical data. However, there are no guarantees.
  • Runway closures are scheduled for the period February 1st to February 8th and then the big one, April 20th to June 3rd – Sounds like a suitable time to plan your holiday!
  • It is critical that everyone checks NOTAMs before just turning up expecting to fly just in case there are any changes and to be familiar with any specific requirements for ground operations.
  • It was pleasing to hear that Council Staff will put forward a recommendation to the newly elected council to waive the license fees as a form of compensation for the major shut down period. Of course, it will be up to the elected councilors to consider and hopefully ratify the recommendation. But they do appear quite confident.
So, there you go, and now you know as much as I do! But don’t forget if you have any questions please ask.
Thanks & Regards
